Today, I Bought a Bunch of Cannabis

As I’m writing this, we are a few weeks into the American coronavirus experience. This week in particular, things started to get more serious. It has become clear that we are likely entering a new economic recession, the WHO declared the coronavirus a global pandemic, and Trump finally announced a national emergency. In my county, Pierce County, all schools have been closed for a minimum of 6 weeks. Washington Gov. Jay Inslee just announced today that all restaurants and bars are ordered to close down. My sister, a server, is likely to be impacted. It’s hard to sort out my feelings as all of this unfolds.

As things have, well, progressed over the past couple of days, my husband and I have had some very intentional conversations about the future. We aren’t panicking, and yet we are trying to be smart. Practical. Mindful of protecting all that we have built. To be honest, I’m a little perturbed with the people who have eye-rolled or scoffed at our heightened caution in light of coronavirus… aren’t we all entitled to our own reactions? We all deal with grief differently; so why, in this moment of quarantine and social disruption that is almost akin to war, are people shaming others for taking mindful precautions? It seems silly to me.

Anyway, one of the precautions we have decided to take is to stockpile some cannabis. And, I figure, if this is superfluous, who cares?! We’ll consume it all either way! :)

Today, after my budtending shift, I purchased a multitude of cannabis products. Here’s the breakdown:

  • 2 x 14g jars of premium cannabis flower (Virginia Co.’s Tropicana Garlic and Collision Kush)

  • 2 x 1g concentrates/dabs (Trichome Extracts and Dabstract)

  • 2+ bags of edibles (Smokie’s Peach Chews, Cornerstones’s Raspberry White Chocolates, and a 2-pack of Marionberry Doozies)

  • 3 vape cartridges (Buddies’ Raspberry, Airopro Lemon OG, and a Flav Pax Era Cartridge in Pear Herer)

  • 2 x 1g syringes of cannabis distillate

  • 10 capsules of 1:1 THC:CBD oil by Double Delicious

  • 300mg “Hybrid” topical oil by Double Delicious

Stockpiling moments of bliss 🌿✨💕

Stockpiling moments of bliss 🌿✨💕

So why did I decide to buy all this? How could this possibly help in light of our recent reality? Let me tell you.

Now, I’ll be the first to acknowledge that cannabis isn’t a panacea on its own. Cannabis will never make all of our external problems go away. And I’m not seeking escape right now; I don’t think cannabis provides that anyhow.

I’m stocking up on weed because I view cannabis as a valuable tool. From experience, I know that cannabis can help me to maintain appropriate perspective, something that seems particularly vital at this moment. Cannabis also helps me be grateful for what I already have, which couldn’t hurt when it comes to penny-pinching in the face of an economic downturn. Finally, I know that cannabis will be able to help me find intentional moments of bliss when I need them most.

It’s not lost on me that not everybody has the financial flexibility to purchase large amounts of cannabis in bulk (or any type of supplies, for that matter). So, even if you have everything you need right now, remember that - in the face of pending uncertainty - not everyone does. More than ever, I hope we can all be especially kind to the people around us right now. Let’s drop our judgment and anger and replace it with compassion, collaboration, and a celebration of our shared experience.

This is what cannabis is all about 🌿✨😘
