Top Female Artists for an Instant Dose of Empowerment

For the sake of sharing, I have compiled a list of badass songs/bands that make me feel warm and fuzzy on the inside.

There’s a certain sound that always motivates me… it typically involves a female lead vocalist and it plays in trendy coffee shops and KEXP in the mornings. It sounds soulful and sometimes discordant but always wonderful. Most of the songs themselves are not very famous, although some of them are crowd favorites.

At some point, I’d like to come up with a proper name for this very narrow genre that I can barely describe but truly love. What would you call it?
